Tile Backsplash and Cambria Countertop Draws Wows!

The countertop is Cambria Quartz pattern Laneshaw. The glass tile is 2″ x 4″ English Bay Driftwood in a stacked pattern with a metallic glass and zinc accent mosaic. The striking glass tile really turned the unusual angled corners behind the sink into a special feature. The undermounted sink is a stainless steel Kraus single bowl.

Fresh Ideas for Your Home

Be brave and energize your interior design plan!

Add bright color to your interior design plan to create excitement in your décor and express your personality!

Bright colors tend to make people feel energetic, so use them in moderation and in the rooms where you want to feel spirited and lively. Be cautious about using too much bright color; it can make a room chaotic, especially when the colors are in bold patterns.

You have so many choices for adding bright colors:

  • The clean primary colors of red, blue and yellow

  • Shocking pink and orange

  • Multiple versions of green, including Kelly green and acid green

  • Passionate purples from dark violet to lighter periwinkle

  • Earthy bright colors like rust, mustard and burnished red tones

  • Splashy spring tones of pink, green and yellow

  • Many hues of brilliant blue including royal blue, French blue and turquoise blue

Adding bright colors is all about being courageous! Here are some ideas to help you get started:

  • Accent paint, such as one wall in a room, the cabinets of a kitchen island, or the back walls of a built-in shelving system

  • The valance or top treatment of a window fashion or the tapes on a horizontal blind

  • Touches of bright color on a printed fabric used for upholstery or draperies

  • The backsplash in your kitchen or bath – or the border on a tile surface

  • One brightly painted accent table in the living room, great room or bedroom

  • Bed or table linens that can easily be changed when you tire of a specific bright hue

Add a touch of bright to your home this season. It will energize your living space.

Bright colors will enliven your home and perk up your life.

Choosing beautiful fabrics can make a material change in your décor.

Wise fabric choices can inspire your entire decorating plan.

Fabrics are used on so many surfaces in most homes. In fact, fabric is one of the most important elements as you make your interior design plans. Fabrics even set the mood for a room and influence the way you feel.

The sheer number of fabric choices can be intimidating; that’s why it’s helpful to work with a professional.

Natural fabrics include cotton, leather, linen, silk, suede and wool, while synthetics include acetate, acrylic, microfiber, nylon, olefin, polyester, rayon and vinyl. Synthetics tend to be more durable than natural fibers, but not always. A lot depends on the finish applied to a fabric or the weave that’s used, as much as the inherent fabric itself.

The most obvious initial decisions are:

  • Fabric color family

  • Whether fabric is solid color or has a pattern

  • Fabric texture and weave

  • Whether fabric is woven, crocheted, knit or pressed

Select fabric first for beauty since the look of your home is paramount, but also consider how your fabric will be used so you’ll be happy with your decision over the long term. For example, fabrics that are optimal for a heavily-used great room sofa will be quite different than those for a seldom-used decorative chair in your entry. Always think about durability and stain resistance if you have pets or children. Also consider how much damaging sunlight enters a room.

Your fabric choices create the underpinning of your interior design plan and are critical to the beauty of your rooms. Consider fabrics carefully and get professional advice before you buy.

A Touch of Black in Decorating

It’s a tried-and-true design adage that
every room needs just a smidgeon of black..

There’s something about adding just one element of black to a room that anchors the room and enhances the other colors. You and your guests may not even notice the touch of black, but it does make a difference.

Black is a powerful color, so a little goes a long way in adding drama, sophistication, seriousness or masculinity. And one of the best things about black is that it never goes out of style, even as other colors rise and fall in popularity, so your black accents will probably outlast all your other design elements!

Black goes well with so many colors, especially cream or any off-white – or even pure, snowy white. It also looks beautiful with bold jewel tones and soft pastels. Today, some people are even decorating with black as the primary color in their design scheme, but be cautious about using too much black – it can be overpowering.

Ideas for a touch of black include:

  • Frames for paintings, photographs or mirrors

  • Granite or marble countertops in the kitchen or bath

  • Lamps or lampshades

  • Upholstery fabric – in moderation

  • Flooring

  • Lacquer moldings around windows and doors

  • A valance, top treatment or drapery rod

  • Leather-covered walls or wall coverings

  • The inside surfaces of a built-in shelving system

  • Wrought iron for stair railings or bed frames

Anchor your home decor by adding a splash of black in every room this spring.

Decorating in Black and White

Image

Decorating with black and white can add  sophistication and drama to your rooms.  It’s a classic color combination.
Black and white is such a simple color combination, yet it makes a beautiful statement in room décor.
There’s something about the mix of dark, rich black with soft, clean white that looks striking and engages
visitors.

We think of black and white as a thoroughly modern and minimal color statement, yet it also fits well with
a traditional or transitional interior plan. We think of it as an attention-getting scheme, but sometimes a few
small touches of black and white quietly and beautifully fit in with the rest of the décor.

Black and white works well all on its own, and also plays well with hot pink, yellow, red and shades of
gray. You can create an entire interior from black and white or use it as an accent. Think black and white for:
• Stone floors or mantles
• Framed photos or prints
• Striped, plaid, zebra print, paisley or checkerboard wallcoverings or fabric
• Backsplashes or countertops
• Appliances and kitchen cabinets in black, with white painted walls and floors
• Painted walls in white, with black lacquer doors and trim – or vice versa
• Walls divided at waist height, with white on the top half and black (or a black and white
pattern) on the bottom – or vice versa.

Even outdoors you can create a black and white color scheme, with white paint, and black shutters,
railings and roofing.

Consider black and white for your next interior design project. It will spice up your rooms just like a touch
of salt and pepper in your food!
