I started selling draperies when I was still in high school in the late 60’s. Back then draperies were the norm for every window. Sliders, bedroom windows, LR, DR, even the kitchen window over the sink, got draperies. I saw more red-velvet draperies and swags than I care to admit to.
Then mini-blinds, roller shades and woven woods began to take over a large portion of the market. But what happened was….textile prices doubled. It got too expensive to cover a large bank of windows with fabric. Mini-blinds and verticals exploded and created a look, none too great, for its sterility.
Fabric is making a comeback and much to my surprise we have been selling draperies again. It seems the price of quality shade treatments have caught up with the price of cut yardage. People are hungry for fabric in their homes.
When Hunter Douglas introduced this line of Modern Draperies, I was amazed. They are absolutely gorgeous. There are 20 fabrics to select from and you have a choice of 5 rod colors.
Custom draperies which we still manufacture take about 8-10 weeks depending on fast we can get the fabric to the workroom. We have other fabric workrooms that are about 4-5 weeks out. But we can get these draperies faster than that.
It is October and we can still get this above treatment installed for the holidays.
